Unisphere Update 6-12-10

As of 2 P.M. yesterday (6-12-10), the second remaining eyass has become a fledgling. I didn't get to see the fledge unfortunately, but it was a safe fledge, as it made it all the way to the roof of the Queens Museum of Art. This scenario is similar to last year, as the first two fledglings landed on the ground beneath the Unisphere (unfortunately one died upon fledging this year), and the third that spent the most time in the nest fledged safely to the museum. Not sure yet if it is male or female, but it is quite healthy and active. It made several short flights atop the museum of at least 100 feet, and when I returned to visit this afternoon, it had made its way into a patch of London Plane trees between the Unisphere and the museum.

Why doesn't the pigeon want to play with me?
